PhotoSC invites Black photographers to submit work that offers a unique perspective — one that challenges assumptions, reclaims narratives, and celebrates both the everyday and extraordinary aspects of Black life.
Submissions may explore all aspects, styles and genres of photography to include alternative practice and collage. Themes such as resilience, heritage, joy, struggle, innovation, form, beauty, and community are welcome.
Consider not just what is seen, but too often overlooked and unseen.
JUROR: ARNIKA DAWKINS
DEADLINE: APRIL 18, 2026
There is a particular resonance in the work of a photographer under the age of 35, one that brings a fresh perspective, a unique style to their practice and to the world around us.
It is well recognized that young photographers have and are expanding the field of photography as a medium of experimentation and intellectual inquiry from photography’s very beginning to today.
Freedom is perhaps the quintessential element in the practice of these photographers, whose work demonstrates the risk taking and the experimentation with new techniques and styles, blending themes and issues. Most importantly, it is the passionate instinct to follow their developing voice without compromise.
PhotoSC seeks images that reflect an array of perspectives, expression and narratives; that challenge viewers about contemporary thought and that challenge viewers to think critically about the emerging art and practice of photography.
